Now in Turkey
Two down, two to go.
I recently finished my second Challenge Tour event, it didn’t go quite as planned, I ended up missing the cut by one shot. I should have easily have made the cut, but I managed to get in my own way. The first round didn’t get off to the hot start that I was hoping for and I was 5 over through 13 holes. I knew that I if wanted to have a chance at playing in the weekend I needed to sharpen up. I managed to finish 3 under on my last 5 holes and finished +2 for the day. I had been struggling with my long game on the first 10 holes, but found something on the last 8 holes which gave me many good birdie opportunities.
I couldn’t have asked for a better start to my second round, I made eagle on my second hole to get back to even for the tournament. Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to keep the foot on the pedal and made some silly bogies. I actually should have played a bogie free round, but ended up making 4…. The good part of everything is that next time around I won’t make the same silly mistakes, without those I see myself contending for the win.
My first Challenge Tour event of the season was in Egypt. It was a lot of fun to experience a new country, even though we didn’t get to leave the resort at all while we were there. It was extremely hot, around 38 degrees Celsius. I played a lot of good golf in the tournament, I was especially happy with my putting from 5 feet and out. It was some of the best mid to long range putting I have done this year, which is very promising for the future. I have made it a goal that putting is going to one of the best parts of my game this year, and the tournament proved to me that I am on the right track.
The best thing that happened in the tournament in Egypt was the way I managed to make the cut. I had played a lot of good holes throughout the first two rounds, but had a few bad holes that made it difficult for me to be in the top of the leaderboard. I knew that I needed to birdie the last 3 holes to make the cut and I did. It was a great feeling to see the 27 foot birdie putt drop on the 18th green to secure me making the cut. I had been waiting for something just like that to happen. My putter saved me, it was a great feeling and it is a huge confidence booster.
I arrived in Turkey late last night where I will be playing another event on the Challenge tour and after that I will fly to Italy for the last of the four tournaments in a row. I can’t wait to tee it up on Thursday and if everything goes as planned have a chance to win come Sunday of next week!
I will have another blog up after the next two tournaments. Thank you for reading and don’t hesitate to give me comments about the blog on my facebook page or to me directly.
